Orissa is set to obtain a place in international tennis map for the first time by hosting a tournament of the Asian under-14 series at Kalinga Stadium here from March 30 to April 4.
Indian players have shown lot of interest for the tournament with 74 boys and 42 girls confirming their entries at the end of the deadline on March 9. Entries of foreign players are expected to announced shortly.
Host Orissa Tennis Association (OTA), under the auspices of All India Tennis Association (AITA), is making all arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event.
According to OTA secretary Madhu Sudan Padhi, six hard courts, including four with lights, will be used for the purpose.
Main draw size will be 32 for boys and girls singles and 16 for boys and girls doubles.
‘‘A budget of Rs 5 lakh has been estimated for the successful hosting of the event,’’ said Padhi, who is also the tournament director.
Free hospitality will be provided to all foreigh players and one coach nominated by respective National association.
Ranking points will be awarded to players securing first to 31st positions. Singles title winner will get 300 points, while one point will be given for the 31st position.
